the secrets of being a good maths student

STUDY HARD

Do not underestimate the importance of hard work! Putting in the hours, taking the time and effort to understand difficult concepts will help us become better at our craft and improve the likelihood of us succeeding. With hard work, we will be able to develop the discipline needed to concentrate and solve hard problems which are key skills that are also transferable to any and every industry.

STUDY SMART

If we can all improve our ability to work smarter by learning which revision methods are most effective to our learning and being able to manage our time better, we will see improved results without having to increase the hours we work. Being able to study smart will allow our productivity level to increase as we can achieve more in less time and still maintain the desired level of quality.

FIND A GOOD SUPPORT NETWORK

The best way to help improve our maths ability is to surround ourselves with people who can help us when we are struggling. Students who have a strong relationship with their teachers and can go to them for help are more likely to succeed in their maths exams. However, some students don’t have the best relationship with their teacher or the confidence to ask them for help, so students in this scenario should reach out to friends, parents, and tutors if possible. For people who prefer independent learning then I would highly recommend watching the maths mentorship YouTube Channel to find videos that break down complex maths topics. People can follow maths mentorship on Instagram and TikTok and send in their questions via the comments section or direct message and I’ll do my best to answer them all!

SUMMARY

To become a good maths student we first and foremost need to put in the hours and do the practice. We improve maths by doing and not reading. Maths is something we need to get involved with, so dedicating the time to improve our maths skills and get familiar with different types of questions will improve our mathematical abilities and understanding. The ways we can maximise the effectiveness of the time we spend studying is by being smart with our revision strategy and revision schedule, as well as finding people to help us out instead of struggling on our own for hours!
