PYTHAGORAS

Pythagoras was a Greek philosopher and mathematician who was a key figure in philosophical and mathematical thinking. Pythagoras was thought to be the first person to prove the famous theorem: a^2 + b^2 = c^2.

WHAT IS MENTORSHIP?

Mentorship is guidance, influence, or direction given to someone from a person who is more experienced. Mentors tend to have more wisdom and life experiences and expertise than those they choose to take under their wing and provide mentorship to.

AN ACTUARY

An actuary is a business professional who uses maths, statistics, and economics to help measure risk and calculate the probability of future events. Actuaries usually work in insurance firms, but many actuaries are also employed by the government to help them prepare and plan for the future.

#10 DESMOS

Desmos is an advanced graphing calculator that can be used to graph different functions. Desmos is a really fun application to use to see how different functions are plotted and how changing functions ever so slightly can have such varied graphs.

#1 DRAWING

We will have to use maths if we want to learn how to become a good artist. When drawing people or objects, learning about proportions is crucial to be able to draw realistic drawings and sketches. Therefore, having a good understanding of the ratio is key to knowing how tall a tree should be in comparison to a person’s height.

MAKE GOOD QUALITY EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS

There are several educational videos on YouTube, however, there are very few that are of good quality and post consistently good content. Furthermore, I am yet to come across any educational YouTube channel that provides free notes that match the videos for their viewers.

WE TEACH MATHS

The reason we are called maths mentorship is that first and foremost we educate students on maths, teaching them topics ranging from orders of operations to more complex statistics and mathematical theorems.

SELF-FULFILLING PROPHECY

If we keep telling ourselves we are bad at algebra, we will be demotivated to even try and become better at it. We will internalise the idea that no matter how much we try to improve our algebra we will always be bad.

#1 LACK OF INDEPENDENCE AND AUTONOMY

One of the most obvious ways in which students lack independence and autonomy in school is the fact that they are required to raise their hand to use the toilet whilst in class, and teachers can deny their request!

STUDY HARD

Do not underestimate the importance of hard work! Putting in the hours, taking the time and effort to understand difficult concepts will help us become better at our craft and improve the likelihood of us succeeding.
